An ereader is a hand held device that is used to read books electronically.
The library currently loans a Barnes and Noble Nook Simple Touch ereader.
Please read through the following Frequently Asked Questions.
Question #1: Who can check out an ereader?
Answer: Patrons 18 years of age or older can check out the device.
Question #2: How do I reserve the device?
Answer: You can place a request online just as you would for a book that is already checked out. To find the device in the catalog,CLICK HERE, or search in the online catalog for “Barnes and Noble Nook”. Then click on the “Place Request” button just as you would for other library materials. If the device is listed as available, just ask for it at the front desk.
Question #3: How long do we get to borrow the device?
Answer: 2 weeks with no renewals. We want as many patrons as possible to have an opportunity to enjoy it.
Question #4: Are there fines for bringing back the devices late?
Answer: Yes, the fine is $5/day (maximum: $25).
Question #5: Do I get to purchase and/or download ebooks, or are ebooks already preloaded on the device?
Answer: Ebooks are already loaded on the device. You will be unable to purchase or download content.
Question #6: Do I have to leave a deposit with the library when I check out the device?
Answer: You won’t need to leave a deposit, but you will have to sign a borrowing agreement that says you agree to pay for the full replacement cost of the device, accessories, and content. Scroll down for a sample of the borrowing agreement.
Question #7: Is there a user manual available for the device?
Answer: Yes, the user manual is on the ereader itself and also at www.barnesandnoble.com
Ereader Borrowing Agreement
- I am 18 years of age or older and a library patron in good standing i.e. no overdue materials or outstanding fines.
- I will return the Ereader to the library circulation desk (not the book drop) within the required 14 day loan period or pay a late fee of $5 / day (maximum $25).
- I am responsible for any damage, loss or theft that occurs while the Ereader is checked out to me. I will pay the entire replacement cost of the Ereader, content and any accompanying accessories.
- I will not alter the Ereader content in any way or sync the device to any of my personal or corporate accounts i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc.
